So simple...yet not enough people do this...

Dirty but do the job well.

Well once again in my life, I’ve begun trying to get healthy again, and as many of you out there…I’ll probably change my tune quick enough to find something that suits me better…but for now it’s (relatively) cold, and there’s no snow on the ground so there are a few options out there…and my favourite is…Walking…good old simple walking…it’s funny how simple it is yet the average North American person doesn’t do much of it at all. It’s a simple, boring (how much fun can it be?) form of exercise that is meant to just get people moving. We’ve done it for thousands of years, and yet now it seems that it’s a dying form of exercise for the masses. I’m fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood that has water and parks nearby so I actually do have things to look at. Although I get carried away at times and then stroll along good ol dirty Lakeshore…but it’s still entertaining…the smells…the sounds…and the sights of what you see are always different. I’ve always enjoyed walking as a form of fitness and the last time I got into this craze it transferred into getting frustrated with the walk, so it would turn out into a fast walk, and then if you’re walking so fast you may as well just jog…but that’s a story for another day.
Beautiful Etobicoke Sunrise
During one of these pushes I’ve been fortunate enough to get my hands on a Garmin GPS watch and have been quite happy with it so far! It allows me to start the exercise, and then will track my avg speed, top speed, elevation or whatever else I want to see from the preset. I’ve used this watch while snowboarding, bike riding, and swimming just satisfy my curiosity as to the actual level of performance I can reach being an average guy who goes through spurts of fitness throughout the year.
Followed by a superb sunset
Recently I’ve been on a push to walk to many places wherever I can, whether it be to see my cousins, the grocery store, or just spend a few hours outside as I’ve (once again) over eaten some delicious food and feel disgustingly fat! I find it very refreshing and invigorating. Even when it’s raining I will still continue my walk as it helps me clear the mind and basically just think without many interruptions during the entire process. I find that I don’t even need to dress warm because after about 1km I get so heated up that it gets extremely warm and then well we all know how we get sick. I try and keep a very brisk pace in order to keep the heart rate going but in the end my goal is not total fitness, it’s to get out and enjoy the fresh, crisp air.
